Omega® Cabinetry: Lighter Shades Make For Big Finishes

Home remodeling designs are getting a big lift from lighter cabinet shades. Homeowners looking to create brighter, more open spaces, especially in kitchens, are introducing fairer shades into their color schemes.

Both stains and paints are reflecting this design trend—including new finish offerings from Omega, known for premium-quality custom cabinets.

Why The Shift Toward Lighter Shades

“Design is very cyclical,” says Stephanie Pierce, Director of Design and Trends for Omega. “Five to six years ago, chocolate stains were it. There’s still a lot of it out there, but as generations change, people want something different. They want something different from where whey were.”

Currently, that something different translates to paints and stains on the lighter end of the color spectrum.

Omega Introduces Paint Finishes On The Lighter Side

Painted cabinets remain strong as an ongoing trend, accounting for more than 50 percent of finishes homeowners choose for kitchen cabinets. So Omega is answering the call for lighter cabinet finishes by adding to its family of white paint finishes.

In the spring of 2017 Omega introduced three new white paint shades: Elemental White, a bright white that adds crispness and clarity; Beach House, a white with creamy yellow undertones that create a warm sandy color; and Meteor, with warm undertones that produce a soft gray hue.

Why so many whites? According to Pierce, “The color white changes so subtly between shades, but when used in a room in this quantity it can shift the whole perspective. Also, with open floor plans, the color of the kitchen influences the rooms around it. So the shade of white a homeowner or designer chooses is really important.”

As an alternative to white, Omega also launched a light gray paint called Colonnade, a trend-forward, warm gray color.

New Omega Stains Are Also Leaning Lighter

For those homeowners whose tastes run toward stained cabinetry, or those who want to mix painted finishes with lighter stained tones, Omega introduced Desert in 2016. This stunning, light khaki stain allows an abundance of the grain of the wood to shine through. It creates a very natural look, enhanced by just the slightest hint of warm, gray tones underneath.

The trend toward subtle, natural shades like Desert is a response to a shift in customer tastes. Adds Pierce, “Typically in the past the lighter end of the stain spectrum has been golden honey tones. Those don’t mix with the more organic color palettes that we see today. As we introduce lighter tones, they have to work with walnut and grey and white palettes. That’s exactly where Desert falls.”

Thanks to new color offerings introduced by Omega, homeowners have even more light and lovely cabinet shades to choose from in painted finishes, as well as a host of stained finishes with a lighter touch.

If this trend fits with your kitchen remodeling plans, you can find quality Omega cabinets at your local ProSource Wholesale showroom, along with expert assistance from designers who are ready to help you create a kitchen that is lighter, brighter, and better than ever before.
