Now it is the epitome of open-concept design. The kitchen opens up into the living area with a large island, giving a lot more counter space and seating. The old kitchen only had 30"" upper cabinets, completely wasting the high ceilings. Now there's over 42"" of cabinet space. Even the cabinet above the refrigerator (which, let's be honest, nobody ever uses) was redesigned to be functional and used regularly."
