My client's original kitchen was small and dark with glass floor tile, cabinets blocking their sight lines, and 20 years old. They wanted to open up the entire space, add more storage, update their appliances, and add an edgy touch to their country home. Recessed lighting was added throughout the kitchen and hardwired under cabinet lighting was installed. The left side of the original kitchen did not have the ability to have cabinets because of the doorway location. I moved the doorway 3' to the right and relocated the refrigerator. There was also a small pantry in the original kitchen; I closed that door and created a larger master closet with that space. Closing that pantry enabled me to have an entire wall of cabinets, large built in pantry and a work station at the end with floating shelves. The pantries on either side of the back windows also offer customization and hide a utility cabinet and pet station.

The laundry room is connected to the kitchen and I carried the flooring, cabinets and paint color into the laundry room. My clients enjoy baking and entertaining so the cabinets are customized to meet their needs with specialty drawer inserts (tiered cutlery drawer, divided utensil drawers, spice drawer), pull out trays in all of the cabinets, a special mixer station that raises to counter height when in use and is housed at the base of the cabinet when not in use. They are retired and wanted a dishwasher providing an option for smaller loads so they opted for a drawer dishwasher. I replaced the original glass tile flooring with waterproof, scratch proof luxury vinyl plank (they have 2 dogs). Although this home is in a rural area they wanted color and a little bit of edge. So, I chose a cadet blue Sherwin Williams paint color and the backsplash carries the stainless steel look to match their appliances and farm sink. My clients love their new kitchen, customized exactly for their needs in their forever home!
