My clients liked the custom cherry cabinets in their new home but they wanted to create more of a showcase and make the space their own. The old island had a small dishwasher, instead, they wanted a full size dishwasher. My cabinet maker matched the style, wood and stain to replace the upper cabinets along the wall and I replaced the over the range microwave with a custom made range hood to match the cabinets. The contrasting, painted island was enlarged to accommodate extra seating, a drawer microwave, a full size dishwasher, and 33" porcelain farm sink. We kept the granite countertop on the base cabinets along the wall but kept with the contrast theme for the island and used a leathered San Benedito granite. The old backsplash was replaced with an earthy stone mosaic. I also installed hardwired under cabinet lighting to brighten the work space along the wall.
