Help for trade professionals: What are some guidelines for taking project photos?

Simply put, project images should be high quality. Remember, they act as free advertising for your business so to attract customers, you’ll want to showcase your work in the best manner possible.

Images should be at least 2,000 pixels wide and 300 dpi (dots per inch). If you’re not sure how to achieve that, simply aim for high resolution image. While phone cameras have come a long way and are acceptable, a digital camera will generally take a better picture.

A few tips:

  • The primary image should capture the entire room. You can then use other images to highlight different views or features.
  • Stage the room to highlight its best features. You should remove unnecessary items from countertops and floors, and avoid showing people.
  • Make sure the image is in focus and the room is well lit.
  • Watch for reflections in mirrors, windows, etc. that can detract from the room view.
